Is Higher Education Worth the Price?

Image
Articles/Documentary feedback    "Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission?" by  Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus  The authors challenge the concept that a college degree is necessary for success. They point out how so many people go into college not knowing the career prospects and economic benefits that a degree may or may not provide when they graduate. The authors also draw attention to the fact that society tries to emphasize on college saying that it's the only pathway to succeed in life. What isn’t talked about is the ridiculous oversupply of college graduates that are underemployed and stuck with a significant amount of debt. They also bring up the fact that the high tuition rates are not justified by the education they are receiving. They talk about how the tuition rates are not fair to students and that they need to increase financial aid and expand on vocational education options so young adults have more options that can benefit them.  "The New Lib...

Is Fast Food the New Tobacco?

Image
Is Fast Food the New Tobacco? The comparison between tobacco and fast food is a subject of debate and several different opinions. Both tobacco and fast food have been associated with negative health impacts and creating bad habits. When people consume fast food a lot, the obesity rate percentage increases and causes health issues. When people smoke tobacco, it can lead to various illnesses that can cause death, including lung cancer and other forms of cancer. Tobacco and fast food industries have faced criticism for their marketing practices and influence on how much individuals consume. Both fast food places and tobacco companies advertise their products all over the internet and world targeting children and young adults. Literacy History

When I think about my earliest experience of becoming literate, I think about when I was in Pre-K. When I was about four years old in school, we would be able to bring one book home a week to practice our reading. I remember my mother helping me read by using my finger to follow each word from left to right. We would also play sound games and “I Spy” which helped me become more aware of what words mean. Rhyming and repetition was also used to help develop better vocabulary and a better understanding of what words mean and how to use them in a sentence. I also remember being a little girl and my parents asking me a billion questions about my day. Parents tend to do this to broaden their children’s vocabulary. My mom would pick me up from school and ask questions about my day and what I learned to initiate responsive conversations. I feel like my mom and teacher helped me the most when it came to reading and understanding vocabulary. I was usually excited to go home to read my week...
